Mine is 04 9.5, started falling apart about a year ago. The rubber outer case shrinks and cracks. It pulls away from the roof and leaves a gap for water to enter and eventually destroy the headliner. Your name - Smowmobile - indicates you probably live in a cooler climate, maybe less ozone in the air which means a longer life for your OffStar antenna. Hopefully, this is one less thing you have to deal with.

A guy I work with has done the stick on thing from Pep Boys, twice on his 03 9-5. The first time he left the old antenna on and trimmed the rubber and fitted the Pep Boys antenna shell over it with just the double sided tape around the outer periphery, it blew off a few months later, the next time he cut off the old antenna with a hacksaw ( also damaged paint on roof doing this) and bought another Pep Boys cover this time leaving the sticky tape in place, and after a long hot summer, it blew off as well, leaving a hole in the roof for water to enter, staining the headliner. So, unless you use a better adhesive and seal the hole with caulk, the Pep Boys thing may not be a long term solution. So I am replacing this with the eeuro dummy antenna, it should last 7-8 years anyway, like the original. Bad design.

Or one could just slather the old one with gobs of caulk, it would look bad, but some have done this.
