1) double check the failure code. If it is the "no signal" then it is a fault in the wiring, not the sensor. There is a crimped junction that needs to be soldered, or possibly a pin in the connector. An experienced Saab shop knows all about it. The wire in question is stainless steel and crimped connections don't work well with stainless.
2) The sensor itself is kind of universal, just a question of the number of leads (IIRC the Saab one is three wire) the length of the cable, and the connector. You can get a three wire universal for stupidly cheap and connect it to the wire that's already there. Or you can get one that has the appropriate connector on the end and pay some extra for the convenience and reliability of not having to splice in the part. Or get one with the Saab label on it and pay even more.
