I use hockey pucks on the floor jack. I never jack the 9-5 from the side though. it makes way more sense to jack it from the middle and use the sides for jackstands... I put cardboard over those to not damage the paint.
I would avoid using wood to support a car as it can split. The hockey pucks also need to be fully supported on both sides. They will deform when used on the front jacking point but I've never had one disintigrate from this... they're just no good for hockey afterwards!
