My statement is not from my own experience, so it can be discounted certainly. But it is from speaking with Saab service managers and independent mechanics who all groan when a 3.0 V6 comes into the shop. Very few of these were sold when they were put into the 9000. I think something like 300 a year were sold. The V6 for the 900 model was actually dropped due to its problems, and it is essentially the same engine, at 2.5L instead of 3.0.
Perhaps GM has resolved the problems with the 3.0 V-6. But that remains to be seen. There is a very small sample of folks who have put 150K+ miles on a 3.0 V-6, but a very large group who have done so with the 2.3L and 2.0L inline fours.
It really comes down to the complexity of the engine. It simply has many more moving parts, more things to break, more maintenance requirements.
But the bottom line for me is that you can't get a manual transmission with it. When I am 80 years old, I might get a slushbox, but I can't fathom a computer chip shifting for me until I can't tell the difference.
