Yes, I was there.
There are speed limits on all US roads unless you're doing the Silver State thing in Nevada or its counterpart in Nebraska. Montana's "reasonable and prudent" is history, too.
That being said, the limits in both UT, NV and most of the western states are very reasonable--70-75 mph on the two-lanes I drove and often 75 on interstates. Obviously slower in work zones, in the many curves and switchbacks on US50 and at speed limits in towns.
Was I seriously paranoid about hitting cattle/deer/something else? Absolutely. I was below speed limit more than once upon seeing deer dashing across the highway in broad daylight. Was I seriously concerned about "going straight to jail, not passing go, not collecting $200?" in the event of getting pulled over? Definitely. I drove with focus and respect and in daylight, with a good radar detector, properly inflated tires, and alone in the car, etc., etc. I wanted to be as sure as I could that I would make it through the rest of my vacation as well as the rest of my life.
Did I have fun? Yeah! Is the Aero up to it? Absolutely. Will I go that fast ever again? Not anytime soon.
