Lack of sheer horsepower is not the Aeros real problem

The power output for my 04 Aero has never left me wanting for more. That is not the problem. My stock 250 hp is probably underrated, and is about all the chassis can handle without some upgrades. I wish they would have put a bit more thought and effort into the suspension (better shocks, springs, bushings and overall design), improving ride and handling and taming the coarseness of the little 2.3 mill. It never sounds great under hard acceleration, no four cylinder is music to most of our ears compared to a well engineered I-6 or V-8.
In fact, this probably saved us all some speeding tickets and higher insurance rates. Keeping the tune low got GM though the warranty period without a lot of costly engine or transmission failures (cars are ultimately engineered by lawyers and bean counters), and is the reason why some get very long life out of these vehicles, without costly repairs. For those that have the need for speed, this little motor is easy and relatively cheap to upgrade.
Remember the 750 hp OG Saab 9-3 that ran Pikes Peak, and some of Nick T.'s (Genuine Saab) Viggens? I modded my 94 900 SE a good bit and the car was scary fast, but the power was way more than the torque steer, chassis and suspension on that car could handle. I really had to be careful with it to stay out of a ditch. But it was fun.
