We live in NE Wisconsin, and it appears to me that there is only one Saab dealer within the area. Took our '99 9-5 in today for a few things that we have noticed in the past week of owning it. We did not purchase the car from there as we were not satisfied with the service we received there in looking at the cars. Anyway, on to my questions.

1. I am assuming that only Saab dealers can service these vehicles under warranty? There are several reputable garages out there that specialize in foreign cars that I would rather take the car to, but I am assuming that if I want the warranty to pay for it, I have to take it to the dealer? (even if I am not very happy with their service?)

2. One of the things we brought the car in for was a small oil leak. The service gentleman said he retorqued the cylinder head to fix it. He said that is a fairly common occurence in these cars. I hadn't heard it mentioned on the board before, but I have only been reading here for a week or so.

3. Another thing we mentioned when bringing the car in was that it was surging on idle (only while in Drive, not in neutral) After searching the board, I saw the throttle body mentioned many times as the culprit. The dealer said he could not get it to surge on idle so he could not fix it. When we picked up the car, my husband drove it home and said it was no longer doing that. Could the cylinder head retorque be the cure to that?

PLEASE forgive anything I may have asked that sounds ignorant. I don't know anything about cars, not to mention these cars, as this is our first Saab. My husband is gone too often to post here, so I get to be the lucky one to do it. I do not want to sound ignorant, and I have read the manual, etc, but i am still not going to pretend to know anything other than what I am told! :-) I hope you will all excuse my ignorance, and help me out so I can report back to my hubby all the good advice that seems to be shared on this board! THANKS!!
Heidi
