if the only damage is the door... Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Fri, 2 Aug 2019 08:54:26 In Reply to: 2002 9-5 AERO wagon sold prices, Jeff Z, Wed, 31 Jul 2019 21:38:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
You should be able to find a junk yard door in the same colour (unless yours is a rare colour) fairly easily.
Repair shops typically quote to just replace everything with new and it can be completely ridiculous. We accidentally scratched a Rav4 in a super minor way - like you could only barely see it in the right lighting etc. The guy took it to a shop and they replaced a skin, all the badges were replaced with brand new, repaint... crazy expensive! I can see doing that with a showroom Ferrari (maybe), but most people do not need that to make things right.
So I would not let your car get totalled over this. Either get a higher valuation for the car or a cheaper shop quote, or like Bob suggests, wait them out to get a higher settlement.
Worst case, getting a couple junk yard doors repainted and fit shouldn't cost anywhere near $2900.
