I think that is a fair assessment. I would say though that there is a significant cost to a shop for the time spent sourcing parts. A SAAB specific shop may just keep a stockpile, but an all makes shop may have to put a lot of extra effort in to get the right parts. I know one shop in a more rural area that is already very busy and always appreciative if I can source parts for them so they don't have to think about it. For my SAAB tech, I bring along any parts I have that I anticipate being useful and say they can use them if they want, but I have no issue with them changing me for their parts. I have multiple 9-5's and do some work myself, so I can be pretty flexible and try to keep some parts on hand anyway... Shocks maybe less so...
