It is always amazing to see how individual car owners can attempt to categorically state that their preferred oil is better than the others, when in reality, all we as drivers do is put it in the car and drive. None of us are lubrication engineers, metallurgists, or in any other way equipped to back up these preferences with facts. The auto companies have teams of powertrain engineers who have both the academic credentials along with the millions of dollars of test equipment that would be needed to scientifically differentiate the results of one brand oil from another, and sometimes even they cannot draw any conclusions from this.
It all boils down to marketing. How many of us actually run an engine to the point of exhaustion, and then personally tear it down and look at the parts, and have the technical means to then quantify the results of that experience and be able to state that one oil did a better job than another would have done? My guess is ZERO. Even in racing today, all of the oil companies sponsor major teams, and all have their successes, as well as their blown engines. Is there conclusive proof in racing that noe oil is really better than another? Don't think so.
Chances are that in today's modern engines, if you follow the manufacturer's schedule for oil changes and use just about any good name brand, you are virtually assured of NOT having a lubrication related failure.
Just my observation on what seems to be a often debated but NEVER resolved question.
