I upgraded from a '95 900S (stick) to a 2002 Linear sedan (auto, prem pkg) two weeks ago, and thought I'd sign in and provide some brief feedback.
Most impressed by:
1) the new 5-spd auto. I struggled with staying with a stick (particularly with the 2.3t), but am already convinced I made the right decision. This tranny is SMOOTH, and "Sport" mode does indeed provide some added grins.
2) the overall solid feel of the car (especially relative to my 900). Build quality is excellent, and ride is very nice.
3) the overall design -- it's just a beautiful machine to look at, and it turns heads (midnight blue w/ sand interior -- best combination imho). The revised light walnut dash works very well with the light interior (although keeping it clean isn't something I look forward to).
4) those little Saab feature touches, e.g. the little side pillar storage webs, the aircraft style pivot lamp and "fasten belts" light (sans chime), the beefy feel of the leather steering wheel, that center dash cup holder (and it's functional to boot!), the way the rear window switch lights die when the driver disarms rear-seat window control...
Least impressed by:
1) the sliding center arm rest. Every time I lean or rest my elbow a certain way, I unintentionally slide it to the full extension and back. (Am I alone here?)
2) the less-than-subtle electric motor "buzz" at idle, the level of which astounds me. I presume this is the electric fuel pump (?) -- but it's VERY noticable.
3) the rate at which brake dust accumlates on my beautiful front alloys (will that reduce as brakes are conditioned?)
4) the fact that I need a dealer's TechII (and $20 a pop, I've been told) to tweak the myriad of configuration options (first planned change: Euro lighting and auto-lock).
Confused by:
1) why those "puddle" door lamps (which cast interior light from the base of the three closed doors when the fourth is opened) aren't -- apparently -- controlled by the overhead interior light switch. The only way to light them appears to be cracking a door open.
2) why my revelation of configured keys (depressing the trunk button with ignition to ON -- thanks for that hint) shows "2 remote key" as well as "2 transponder". I have two physical keys -- are there two others somewhere programmed to my car?
3) the purpose of that little hooded trip switch in the back of the engine bay (top center of the firewall). I'm guessing it's part of the security system -- right?
Finally, THANKS to all of you who take the time time to keep this forum active and meaningful. Your insights helped make my purchase decision (e.g., paying attention to auto vibration braked in "D") and saved me some cash as well.
Not a hint of blue smoke, either! ;-)
