The A6 2.7t was on my short list when I changed cars last year. My observations about the A6:
1. Much nicer interior for the A6
2. The A6 handling was rather soft. It reminded me of a Lexus GS300.
3. The posts on AudiWorld indicated that the 2.7t owners had quite a few problems with their vehicles. For me this was the single greatest deterrence.
As to your questions:
Yes, there is quite a bit of road noise - they say it's the tires.
On the 2002 Aero I drove, which was an automatic, torque steer was not that noticeable. A manual may be different.
As far as reliability, a Saab ain't no Honda, but it ain't no Audi either! The Aero seems to fare pretty well.
