It seems like there are an awful lot of posts on this board about wishing Saab had more horsepower - as if Saab was missing something by not have a 300- or 350-hp awd car. I would think the market size for this would be awfully small (probably just the readers of this board & not many others).

Unless you take your car to the track (which is a different story), what are any of those horses good for, except to get you into trouble that you are unprepared and untrained to handle (since you never take it to the track to learn how to handle it) ???? My Linear may have "only" 185 hp, but I can get on the on ramp to I-94 and easily be at lose-your-license speeds before I even enter the highway ! Gotta be careful not to rear-end the cars already on the freeway ahead of me ! And of course, a lot of driving is in town anyway, when 90% of the time you are accelerating into the brake lights of the person in front of you. I was behind a Corvette with that many horses the other day, and at each light he'd accelerate from a standing start to the traffic speed of 30 mph in about 2.5 seconds - maybe fun for some people, but it looked pretty stupid after about the 6th time he did it...

Maybe it makes some sense in Germany (the autobahn can be fun !), or in Montana or Texas, but Saab's market share in the empty plains states is pretty small. It's all Northeast and California, so Saab shouldn't waste the money; make the perfect 200-hp car, and a few very expensive high-hp versions to give the marque bragging rights (it needs to cost real $$ so we don't have too many nuts making it dangerous out there), and leave it at that.
