Hi Scott,
I forgot to mention that the battery may drain a little quickly
(1 year in some cases). The 9-5 has a lot of electronic features
such as SID and Trionic. This may be leading to short life-span of
batteries.
However, I have other suspicions. Saab 9-5 has the nice feature of
headlight shutting off when you turn off ignition (sounds like a very
simple thing but other car makers don't do it). So, we're told to
always have head-lights selected with head-light knob. There have been
more than one post which says that on the 9-5 sometimes head-lights do
not shut off when ignition is shut off. I don't know if short life-span
of battery and this "bug" are related. So, I recommend that you do
whatever you do with your current automobile (if not a Saab) just to be
safe.
So, that's it. Blue smoke and battery are the two most common
complaints. On '99, ECU needs upgrading if not replaced already.
thanks
Jae
