A pro detailer can make a car look like new if he/she uses the right tools, the right techniques, and the right products at the right time. Car detailing is not that hard to do but like anything else it can be screwed up. Ask around for a referral for a good detailer and expect $60-75 for an exterior only detail and $100+ for exterior/interior job.
Like most things in life, if you want them done right ya gotta do them yourself. You can certainly use a "one step cleaner wax" which supposedly cleans, polishes, and protects in one step. But virtually all those products are compromises and don't do any one thing well. But if you want a quick and easy polish job they're OK. Expect a max of 90 days protection with most lasting 4-6 weeks max.
The best one step product I know of is Klasse All In One. It's never available in stores so you'll have to mail order it. But its a terrific product that does most things well for a one step. You can get it from the following suppliers:
http://www.properautocare.com
http://www.autogeek.net
http://www.tacscar.com
http://www.yosteve.com
I've either used all these suppliers or know them personally so I can attest to their customer service and quality. All will treat you well.
I hope all this helps.
