At least Saabs (mine anyway) have the gas fill on the opposite side of the car from the drivers, so if you *were* to re-enter the car the liklihood of flash fire would be minimized. I don't know about the story either. I suppose it would be *possible* (anything is, right?) but the conditions would have to be *just so* for it to happen. A huge static spark and a rich concentration of vapors. No wind to stir them up. Hmm.
