Just got my Motor Trend and read this article too. Is it just me, or are these wagons just a bit on the silly side? Who really wants those plastic tack-on wheel arch extenders, or needs the height-adjustable suspension? Apparently, at least the Volvo version seems to be a big seller - can there really be that many lemmings out there? Let's see - most popular non pickup truck sold in US is an Explorer SUV - well, I guess so.
I gave serious thought to the "normal" V70 because of the 3rd row seat, until the Saab dealer pointed out the safety issue. As MB also puts a 3rd row seat in their E320 wagon, I'm not sure they didn't plan for those passengers in their crumple zone calculations, but then again, why temp fate. Of course, there are plenty of minivans running around with 3rd row passengers whose HEADS are just inches from the rear tailgate - at least in a V70 your kid's vital organs are at least 3 feet from the rear bumper.
