About 5 years ago I was traveling between NY and Minnesota in a 1974 Volkswagen microbus when the engine dropped a valve on the New York/Pennsylvania border. I took the engine apart on the side of the road and cleared the valve and turned the engine into a 3 cylinder for the drive home. Because there was additional damage to the engine due to chunks floating around the intake it began using copious amounts of oil to the point that I could not shut it off (except to change fouled plugs) in fear that it would not start again once cold. Of the 60 quarts of oil(and 16 spark plugs) I went through on the 900 mile trip home 12 were Delvac and I distinctly remember actually geting Longer plug life with the Delvac oil in the engine.
