And me. Nitrogen certainly has some benefits according to the marketing blurb found via a quick search on Google, but I didn't find anyone claiming it reduced noise.

It's key virtue it seems is that with Air inflated tyres, Oxygen is able to permeate the tyre and thus the pressure goes down. Whereas Nitrogen leaks much less slowly, and thus constant pressure is maintained, with a concomitant reduction in tyre wear (through underinflation).

I suppose the counter to all this, is that if you maintain accurate inflation of your tyres, there is no advantage to Nitrogen whatsoever.

The other factor that I struck me as to how much of this was marketing blurb, was that they are claiming that it is the Oxygen from Air that can permeate the tyre walls.

Well, given that Air is 78% Nitrogen, then if your tyres go down, then it must have been the Oxygen that has permeated, (assuming no leaks of course), thus the air left behind would be very much Nitrogen rich. So once the tyres had depleted by 20%, you'd pretty much only be left with Nitrogen in the tyre. A subsequent top up with 20% air, would only add back in a contribution to the total of 80% of 20% (or 4%) Oxygen. Thus by allowing tyres to deflate to 80%, and then topping them up, you'll have a 96% Nitrogen inflated tyre :-) Each subsequent top up would increase the Nitrogen balance as a % further :-) (I'm sure there is a flaw to this argument, so please accept it as being completey back of a fag (English:US translation = Cigarette) packet, hand wavey, and tongue in cheek.
