in our race cars. The advantage being that the tyre pressures would remain the same even after the tyres started to get hot. With standard air, you can set your pressures in the paddock, and by lap three or four, they could be as much as 4-8 psi higher. Nitrogen stays virtually the same pressure at any temperature.
You're right, the same would hold true for summer to winter street driving. Theoretically, you'd never have to check your tyre pressures (provided that they were completely sealed from leaking); you'd never have a summer to winter tyre pressure fluxuation. My technicians always joked, that in the summer they would have to flush the tyres to replace the winter with summer air (or vice verse).
