I had a similar problem on my car... I used good old fashioned windex and paper towels followed-up with a coat of Rain-X. I love this stuff... it really helps improve visibility in the rain. I put it on all of the windows and the outside mirrors.
I've also used newspaper with the Windex. I've heard that the ink acts like a mild abrasive. Can't confirm that it works any better than paper towels, but it's a lot cheaper.
