Thanks to all for the input. This was my first post and it was great to see the feedback. Very helpful and much appreciated.
Among the comments was the recommendation to work invoice up, not MSRP down. I've done some research on cars.com and edmunds, and the lowest invoice price I found for the Aero was $36,152. When I add the metallic paint and touring package this 2002 has, the so-called invoice price increases to $37,947. I realize there are holdbacks and other unpublished incentives, but that's still thousands above the $32K price I was quoted (less $500 owner loyalty). The sales mgr even said - when I pushed a bit on this - that if I waited until year-end (12/30 or 31) he may absorb even more, as he'll have to depreciate it further in '03. Several of you commented that you paid considerably more recently, so I think this is about as good a deal as it gets. Agreed?
Compared to the Maxima SE 6-spd, Saab's warranty, roadside assist, driving "fun" factor, door-close solidity, and overall cockpit intelligence win out hands down. I'm leaning in Saab's direction - a high-performance, enjoyable ride for years to come. Meanwhile, my brother (a 2002 M3 owner) now suggests the Infiniti G35 sedan. A few financing incentives are available, even though sticker prices are holding steady, so no real deals likely. Frankly I'm happy with my 2000 9-5 SE, I like its relative rarity, and would be thrilled to move up to the Aero. Has anyone had the experience of comparing the Aero to the G35?
In the end, majority of you said "buy what you love" as it will be around for 4-5 years. I agree, and will pay that much more (than the Maxima) to get it. Other suggestions on high-performance, emotion-inducing, distinctive rides for $30-34K?
