I just bought a red '00 Aero from the local (and only) Dallas dealer. It had 48.7k miles on it at the time (50k now). It was Saab Certified by the dealer, extending the factory bumper-to-bumper warranty to 1/2006 or 100k miles.

The Aero is, in my opinion, the ONLY way to go. I didn't consider any other model. The automatic is strong, competent, quick and quiet (see below). Driving a Porsche manual, with it's super-short throw clutch, has ruined me to driving other stick shifts; they all seem big and loose to me now.

The warranty has been invaluable, as the dealer didn't really get anything fixed pefore offering the car for sale. This is a pet peeve with me. If the dealership can get service & parts at cost, why not get the used autos on the lot all lubed/tuned up and squeeky clean? The buyer will come back and make them do it anyway... oh, well.

Anywho- I had a laundry list for Service after just the first day: sunroof doesn't close, front bumper is loose, missing chin spoiler (still don't have that one fixed), turn signal stalk shot, etc., etc.

Service, to their credit, fixed it all in a week. Every little thing. Without the Certification, I couldn't ever go back and do that again.

While there, I asked for a print-out of the service history of the car. That DOES show big parts replaced in the past but DOES NOT show services completed like oil changes and tire rotations.

Mine shows six Service Campaigns completed, three (!!!) batteries installed, one DI Cassette, AC fan motor (and related), seat heat/vent switch replacement, AC computer replacement, instrument/switch panel (?), and an amazing array of other crap, including, count 'em, eleven headlamps.

OK, so this one's had some work done. It still really needs a tune up as the belt whines like mad and the tranny shifts a bit hard. That said, I think this was a terrific buy, and we've already enjoyed a road trip with it that was flawless. I'm looking forward to the next 100k miles.
