...the motorway when I've not been rushing. The 30mpg mixed figure is a very consistent tank to tank reading, doing city driving, some short sprints :-) and hard acceleration, town traffic, country roads. I can't think of a better blend of driving for an average. This is on my 80mile commute to university.

These figures will seem high to you americans - they are Imperial gallons, not US. My Aero is an Auto, and is the most economical 9-5 I've owned to date (this is my fourth, but the first Aero). More economical than the 2.0L Manual gearbox models.

With a light foot, I could drive on the motorway at 40+ mpg, but certainly 38+ mpg would be realistically acheivable if there wasn't too much off motorway driving. The car just get's better as it runs in. Now at 8000 miles.

If I enjoy the car to its maximum potetial, then yes, the fuel consumption goes down, but even on my commute, I'm often giving the car merry hell to make up time, and I still average 30mpg on that trip.
