Blue bulbs bad, Plus50's good, and more

I just did a bunch of research on better headlights for my Aero. I got new "Plus50" bulbs and am very happy with the added light.
First, HIDs require a different electrical system so a real halogen-to-HID upgrade is a big (and expensive) deal. Second, blue bulbs are a farce; they reduce the amount of light thrown onto the road surface. Third, there are a number of European (Osram, Phillips, Narva, etc) H7-sized bulbs that are brighter than the H7's we generally use here, but most are not marked as compliant with U.S. DOT rules and are thus not generally considered "street legal."
I found lots of useful lighting information at Daniel Stern Lighting (http://lighting.mbz.org). Daniel also sold me DOT-compliant, H7-sized Osram Plus50 bulbs. The package and invoice is from CandlePower, the U.S. marketing arm of Germany's Narva lighting company. You may be able to buy the bulbs directly from CandlePower, but you might not. The bulbs were about $18 each (pricey as far as headlight go, but a lot cheaper than many of the gimmicky blue bulbs).
In the interest of full disclosure, one of my bulbs had been dead for over a week. Maybe some of the "extra" brightness I'm seeing is just from having two headlights, but I don't think so. Comparing the street in front of my car to that in from of others shows a brighter, whiter, longer, and wider field of light.
Good luck, Ken
