It is possible to remove the platic ring on these speakers - they will then fit and allow the dash grills to be re-fitted.
To remove the rings I gripped the speakers in a vice to hold them steady, then gently but firmly pushed the ring towards the centre of the speaker, working my way round the circumference. The glue holding the ring in place is a non-setting mastic and allows the ring to separate from the chassis. Be very careful not to pull the roll surround of the cone up with ring.
It only took a few minutes but its worth taking time to ease the ring off and not risk tearing the surround.
Once the ring was removed, the speaker drops into the dash cutout and there is just enough room for the grill to be re-fitted.
