Yeah, I've no real experience yet with the SAAB's ESP - SAABs are just so inherently stable! I've only seen the light come on _once_ when I intentionally provoked it, by flooring the throttle in first gear at 3,500 rpm in the rain. Otherwise I drive my Aero very carefully--quickly, but carefully!
But in a loaner BMW 3-series, it really came in handy once when I was driving on an unfamiliar highway off-ramp, carrying too much speed. The ramp was straight and then curved sharply at the last minute. I braked sharply to scrub off as much speed as possible, but was already navigating the curve and expected the car to plow and go wide. (understeer)
Instead, the DSC intervened and saved the day... It made the rear of the car rotate by just the right amount, and the car turned and followed the _exact_ path I had intended--quite magical! Makes you feel like Mario Andretti!
It's almost a necessity in those RWD Bimmers because it prevents the tail from coming out when it's slippery out. You'll see the light flashing in those cars accelerating in the rain, snow, on gravel, and even on leaves [kinda annoying when pulling out into traffic!]
