And if something doesn't seem right, we all like to find out more about it.

For instance, many manufacturers are providing fully synthetic oil as part of their complimentary scheduled maintenance (BMW, MB, and even SAAB with the new 9-3SS), so at first glance, the semi-synth 5W-30 didn't seem too good. My first impression was that SAAB was being a little cheap. (10,000-mile oil change intervals on a turbocharged car with a 4 qt oil capacity, using semi-synth?!)

But Jae had this oil analyzed and it isn't nearly as bad as we thought.. rather, Blackstone Labs wrote to Jae saying that it should serve his needs well! As you know, all 9-5s are turbocharged, which means they are inherently harder on the engine oil, compared to an average, normally aspirated engine. So oil quality is important!

Now what I'm concerned about is that SAAB is stating that the new orange Dexcool coolant is a "lifetime fill". It's been written here by someone "in the know" that Dexcool should be flushed and replaced at a maximum interval of 2 years, or else it has the potential of attacking certain plastics! I probably would have gone 3 years if I didn't know about this, so I'm thankful for that information, just as many are thankful for the information on engine oil.

Many SAABophiles plan on keeping their cars for longer than usual (beyond 200,000 miles) so any bit of info that might help the car last longer is greatly appreciated!

Jason
