Using the 6ES will simply get you a cleaner plug as it is hot enough to burn off on-boost carbon deposits while running off boost.
That is only part of the story.
You need clean injectors and folks with the 6ES plugs often get hard starting with the cool weather in the fall while low volilility summer grade fuels are still in distribution, which might be year round in SCAL.
So folks who are running 6ES's with hard starting in the fall usually find that a bottle of Techron Concentrate eliminates starting problems in couple of days.
Whenever any such issues come up, plug inspection is a good idea to note the appearance of any deposits, checking for cylinder to cylinder differences and to check the gaps or replace. Set gaps to .035 for longer service time in the sweet spot of the gap as it erodes open.
Other starting issues.
. clean the TB every couple of years, mild solvent on a cloth
. clean the IAC every 3 years or 75-100K, remove and use carb spay
. if the fuel filter has been changed and starting gets quite hard and you have done all of the above, the fuel pressure regulator is often at fault. Exactly why the fuel filter replacement leads to such problems is not exactly understood, but I assume its dirt contamination. Fuel filters should normally be good for well over 100Kmiles.
