Forget about automatic transmissions for a second...
The engine management (not transmission management) has a direct effect on the day to day maximum power of the car because of this change in the A/F mixture this is normally called adaptation (see the link below).
The Saab has this complication when talking about creating power, whether it has "adaptive learning" by your definition is unknown to me since I have a standard transmission and my internal computer can adapt my shift points. If you want to have the car create maximum power it has to be driven hard until the Lambda value returns to the correct value.
