I thought it was semantic but let me try an example...

and see if we are talking about the same thing. I
Suppose the two asymmetrical tires have the following tread pattern with both "outside" facing the same way, and this is how these tires are made:
--->(outside)
ABC
DEF
GHI
---
ABC
DEF
GHI
(repeat in the same way)
--->(outside)
ABC
DEF
GHI
---
ABC
DEF
GHI
(again repeat..)
(Note: these are non-directional tires but have a preferred outside)
Suppose I mount one of these tires on the passenger side, with the "outside" on the outside (yeah I know, a bit clumsy but you get the point). Now when I look at the tires from the front.
We have on the passenger side (the "original" outside tread block is "CFICFI" remains on the outside but the contact order of the tread is not the same as on the driver side.
<-- this is now the outside
IHG
FED
CBA
---
IHG
FED
CBA
I cannot get this pattern if I put a mirror on the center line of the car, but it is rotationally symmetric about an axis through the center of the wheel axle. As one can see this is a bit of an odd pattern, as it isn't a mirror image of the other side and in order for the contact pattern to be in sync one side has to rotate backwards!
However, a mirror image tire would be:
CBA
FED
IHG
---
CBA
FED
IHG
In this case, the order of the tread pattern can be made to match the driver side but not in the asymmetrical tire case.
Are we talking about the same thing ?
