I have found the 1 year mark to be the sweet spot. (+) Posted by MisplacedYankee [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Best way to get into a Saab 9-5, Greg W, Tue, 3 Jun 2003 12:31:23 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
It really comes down to burn rate - do you want to own the car for 5 years or 3 years? Lease new if you want low payments and want a new car in 3 years. Buy used if you want a medium payment and plan to own in 5+ years or want to get rid of it in a year and want to match depreciation best you can.
SO leasing new is easy....If you plan to buy used I recommend you try to get within the same model year if at all possible. Try to find one that is under a year with a lot of miles for the age. I once bought a VW Jetta that was 9 months old and had 14K miles on it. I saved 3K off invoice had it for two years and TRADED it for 1.5K less than I paid.
I bought my 2000 Viggen used with 7K miles on and 5 months old. This was in May of 2000 and the car sold new for ~$33.5K or more. I got it for $28K used and TRADED it 1.5 years later for $26.5K.
Within 1 year used is a great way to go if you can get a deal. Teh tough part is finding the price they will sell the car at without a low ball. Patience is key. I watched the Viggen sit on the lot for 3 months and watch the sales price drop $2K before I made an offer.
ALSO -- For a car bought at wholesale for $25K it is likely marked up by a reputable dealer by $3K to $4K. This will absolutely be the case for one that is certified with the extendend warranty.
So the best would be to find one for a good price thats about 1 year old with the extended warranty.
Good luck. I am sure its out there....
