is exactly the thing I am afraid of whenever I buy a new car.
I (and many here) are particular about cars. We like our cars to be close to perfect. In your case, it is not even being particular as the problem can clearly be seen. I may even consider a dealer reasonably competent if they can fix 75% of the things I like to be fixed. Yes, whenever I take the car in to a dealer, I print out a list of things to do, from major to minor.
A long warranty is good but if the car dealer essentially ignores the problem until the car goes out of warranty or until you run out patience, the warranty means absolutely nothing. Dealers of various makes have played this game. In fact, as you have pointed out, often the time wasted may cost you more than fixing the problem using your own money.
When you write to GM Canada and to the General Manager of the dealer just present your side in a professional manner, document the number of times you have tried to resolve the issue and why each time the problem is still unresolved. If you have pictures, attach a copy to the letter as well. I would write the dealer first and cc GM Canada. If no response is heard from the dealer, do the reverse and try to get a name from GM Canada before sending in the letter.
Let us know of the progress.
