$400 for the 18K service? That's an oil change and a glance at the car! Pretty outrageous.

Your first mistake is bringing it to the dealer to have this done. You can easily check the brakes without removing the wheels on most cars with alloy wheels (all they do is glance into the wheel to see if the pads have any width).

My advice is to use the resources and wisdom of this board and do these very minor services yourself. My regime is to only bring the car in for the major 60K/120K, etc. maintenances and do the rest myself. It is extremely simple to change the spark plugs and do an oil change. You'll learn a bit more about your car and you'll be proud to save those hundreds of pounds.

When you come right down to it, the Saab is so well designed that most services are very easy to accomplish with some simple tools. Save the trip to the dealer for any big jobs if they are ever needed.
