One of my co workers needed a wagon to move some stuff, so I swapped cars with him for a week. He got my 9-5 2.3lpt - I got his new Infinity M45. Let me tell you, a 4.5 liter 340 bhp V8 is addictive, that thing pulls like a locomotive and is smooth, smooth, smooth. I absolutly wasted a VW GTI Turbo without even trying hard. 0-100 mph takes only about 15 seconds.
I still think the Saab rides better and looks better, but the M45 represents great value at $44K and has big incentives too, just like Saab. Surprisingly the fuel consumption is only 2-3 mpg worse than the 2.3.
When I asked him how he liked the Saab he replied "how do you drive this thing, all that shudder at idle (in the M you can't tell the engine is running at idle) would drive me crazy and the off the line performance is pathetic". I guess he is right on both counts but I still like my Saab. However, when the lease is up the allure of the V8 will have me looking at alternatives!
