I used that same BPV on my 95SET which could have used a BOV, but I have never used a BOV. Like I said its a grunt sound, not loud, perhaps subtle. that I notice in this quiet vehicle. I would expect that a BOV would be very loud. I do recall some noise of that nature in the 95SET, but with the air box funnel mod and Sports exhaust, there was a lot of music and it was part of the score. With the Viggen IC the sound when getting on boost was a blend of turbo whine and a whoosh of air. With the Aero you can hear some of the whoosh of air, but the intake is routed to infront of the A/C condensor, behind the grill and up rather high. So the sound probably projects forward of the vehicle. That intake will help avoid water ingestion that has killed some NGs and 9-3s. I would like to modify that intake, remove it and post form it to flare out the end. But removing it looks like it requires removal of the whole integrated bumper thing and that sux.
I had 1 2.7mm spring shim washer installed. I removed that and it seems quieter now. Remember that this install does not have the boost pressure attempting to open the valve at all. So it does not need much to hold it shut. And when a pressure facing piston valve starts to open, the flow creates dynamic forces on the piston face which will make it open faster. So I don't have that effect either.
