times are tough for us ($$), so we were thinking of jettisoning the car with the highest payment (our '01 9-5 wagon, 40k) and getting something like a used (gasp) Explorer or other similar vehicle (Ed ducks as brickbats are tossed his way :-) ) Anyway, I figured we'd get killed on trade-in, esp. compared to what we owe on the car and the fact that we would be buying another used one. So, instead we re-financed the car for five years at like 2.9%, and lowered the payments to an acceptable level. Stupid move financially, yes, but with the payoff on the wagon lumped into a new car loan, the monthly nut would surely have been close, if not higher, than what we have now. At least we like the car, and know the history.

both being killed by depreciation.
