I always used to have that same thought about not taking a new car that has been fixed, but why not tell them that they should get it fixed and that you will then look it over, and if it is done to your satisfaction,you have a deal? They have to fix it anyway,so they are not being put in a position of spending money that they would not otherwise spend. One suggestion would be to insist that all trim be taken off the area to be fixed and not masked over. Ask for the name of the body shop and drop by there while the car is in to confirm that is how they will do the work. I know it stinks, but the reality is, cars get broke, cars get fixed,life goes on. If this particular combo is just what you wanted, and impossible to replace in a 2003, what have either you or the dealer got to loose? One of my dealer's former mechanics( it got him redeployed to the unemployment line)sheared the front spoiler off my Aero on it's 30 K mile service a while ago. Brand new spoiler, brand new paint, no evidence of it happening( other than the displaced former mechanic).
Give it a try, you have noting to loose.
