I understand your point and yes, I've had an issue or two, but I'm getting tired of all this technology that simply causes more problems than it solves. All this crap costs more to buy and more to fix. It also causes more people to rely on their car to drive them around rather than the opposite. To me, a lot of these items (park assist, laser cruise control, navigation systems, DVD players, etc.) are gimmicks, marketing hype, and distractions rather than genuine improvements (like seat belts and anti-lock brakes). For me, the simpler the better.
I drive a 25 year-old car with not a scratch on either bumper. I attribute this to paying attention (and maybe a bit of luck). It also helps that I'm willing to walk a few extra feet to a parking space at the rear of the lot. I treat a parking lot like a parking lot - I drive slowly and don't jam the car in reveres and race out. I even back into my garage so I can pull out face first so it's easier to see kids and pets on the sidewalk. As park assist gains popularity rest assured there will be problems with people becoming too lazy to look for themselves.

(Of course, you know I’ll be changing my tune the next time I back into something – and knowing me, it will be later today!) :-)
