Hi Anders. It would seem to me that the on board computer knows that the engine is turning thru 2 sources: a good electrical pulse sent by the crank sensor, and the firing of the DI. But if the crank sensor is faulty, the DI does not fire, and the ECU can't tell if the engine is still or rotating. However, on a system equiped with a camshaft sensor, the ECU has a correlation point to determine engine rotation. So on the SAAB, it would seem a bit harder to diagnose a faulty crank sensor, and we all know what a thing of beauty the capacitive discharge ignition system is.
