1999 9-5 "Check Engine" dash light came on last weekend at night. During daytime car left a blue and grey smokescreen from tailpipe and light went away. Smoke went away too, until next startup. Independent Saab shop hooks up Tech II, pulls up history of misfires (cylinder 2 and 3 especially) and advises DI cassette replacement. As a diehard DIY, I order new DI cassette and plugs from eEuroparts, install and drive around happy again with better fuel mileage to boot. Smokin' Saab dilemma returns, I do PCV collector box modification, with no improvement. Slight oil/dirt accumulation on throttle plate, no oil trace in rubber throttle hood or turbo boost pipe. I go under engine to wipe weeping oil from oil pan at crank end and backside towards fire wall with some oil drip onto cat converter. Notice slight oil trace/drip at turbo to exhaust pipe flange connection. Did compression test today with 205 psi at #1, 220 psi at #2, 223 psi at #3 and 205 psi at #4. (What's the spec. for this anyway...Can't find yet..) Newly installed plugs look black. Car continues to smoke blue/grey from tailpipe at idle. Intend to check cylinder head bolts torque next and maybe order the head gasket set anyway. Will hold my breath and wonder about the turbo...
Anybody have THE ANSWER??!!
Thanx to all of Saabnet for much help in the past!!
