works right, there is no reason to expect the light to fall out. There a detent on the plastic tab and should hold on to the fender. If there is any misalignment on the light or the chassis part, I can see the light can work itself loose over time if the detent isn't catching the fender part tight enough. Also, if the air dam or front bumper cover hits something albeit at slow speed, with the new design of the front (2002-03), the whole front pushes on the headlight and turn signal assembly and can loosen the tab in time. This is why when Jason got hit by the Volvo the damage was so extensive as everything from the front of the car would be affected.
When I took my wife's car in for the 30-day adjustment, the dealer put in the clips but I think they actually broke the tab off on one of the turn signal and put in some silly putty to hold it. The light assembly came off during one cold winter day and I had to keep pushing it back in periodically until they gave me a new one with the metal clip at the 5,000 oil change.
