Face it, you're never going to get all of us to agree on this. So waddaya do? Switching to a premium fully synthetic oil is the best first step. Mobil 1, Amsoil & Saab full-syns are probably your safest choices (stay away from the xW-20 oils). Any of these oils will easily go 5k miles in a Saab turbocharged engine.
After that, it's simply a matter of comfort. That is, which viscosity are you most comfortable using, & how much longer might you leave it in the engine? I'm no longer comfortable changing my oil before 10k miles, & I'm no longer comfortable using an oil which doesn't meet the most stringent durability standards. IMO, that narrows my choices down to three Mobil synthetic oils: 0W-40, 15W-50, & Delvac 1 5W-40. If I lived in your area, I'd use M1 15W-50 year-round (I'm in Northern Colorado, & my 10k mile changes take a full year). But that's just where my comfort level is.
The Saab semi-syn is a good oil, presumably made by Mobil but unlike any other Mobil gasoline-rated oil available. If you're only using it because you're getting it free, & you're planning on changing it out in-between dealer visits anyway, then I'd recommend sticking with a Mobil syn while you're in this mode. Additionally, I'd seriously consider dumping the Saab oil after 4k miles & running one of these full-syn oils for the remaining 6k. The full-syn will be in better condition after 6k miles than the semi-syn will be after 4k miles. Then, once you're OOW, you can get into any type of oil & change schedule you like.
But hey, I'm just here to add to the confusion. ;-)
