Aero wagon rear ended - ins. woes

Just got the estimate for my '02 Aero wagon repair -- rear-ended by a Jetta two weeks ago. $1,500, including some sort of exhaust repair. The exhaust didn't seem to be compromised after my inspection, but whatever, go for it. The thing that completely bothers me is that they're not replacing the bumper cover. It was flawless before the accident (thanks to the parking sensor), and now has very noticeable ripples in it. USAA says repair, not replace. I got aggitated with the adjuster -- he said they'll heat it and smooth it over, then paint it -- and I was fed up at that point and figured I'll take it up with the body shop. Sounds like a cheap way of fixing with less than perfect results. Anybody have insight on this process?
Fortunately, the body shop I'm headed to fixes only Euro imports -- mostly Jags, and he said don't worry, we'll handle it with USAA.
Ugh. So not looking forward to the Cavalier rental...
