Jason,

I have been looking for this oil in the auto stores in the Boston area with no luck. My question to you is how do you know that this is not also FakeTec seeing as how the Castrol Syntec / FakeTec 5W50 is also A3/B3 rated. Did you read or hear that just because it is made in Germany it is the real thing?

Also, my wife has a BMW X5 and the oil BMW uses is also made by Castrol. It is a 5W30 which is A3/B3 rated. I noticed that after 5K miles on her car there was a good deal of sludge on the end of the dipstick. Her commute is 45 miles of all highway driving going in the other direction of traffic at an ave. speed of 80 mph the entire way so I do not relate the sludge to stop and go / short trips. At the 5K mile mark I changed the oil and filter with the BMW 5W30 Synthetic and BMW filter. When 10K miles came around the sludge was still there. At that point I made the change to M1 0W40 and BMW filter. This car now has 40K miles and the dipstick is beyond clean. When I change the M1 0W40 at 5K intervals it is almost as golden brown as when it was put in.
I did not mean to get off topic but I guess what I am trying to say is that it will be a long time before I will trust a Castrol motor oil product again because of what they tried to do with the FakeTec.
