The DI dies when it gets ready, unpredictably, but not all that commonly. a new one can be had for $300 or less, and changing it, even on the road, is less challenging than changing a tire, and a lot lighter work. If it dies in traffic, the car dies with it, which can be scary (but I'd bet you could catalog other such quirks in other brands. I think I'll start carrying one at around 25,000, in the trunk.
The SID, if it working, also can't be pre-judged. It is non-essential, can be replaced do it yourself (a bit harder than the DI). There is a person on this Board who repairs them, and is reasonable. It is expensive as a new part. If you get a SAAB certified used SAAB, you are protected on both items (although the car dying at speed, which happens once in a while, can have consequences not under warranty). It seems to me that if you see a used SAAB which the dealer won't certify, you shouldn't buy it. a private sale, of course, is different.
