The DI cassette is a part which contains a set of 4 ignition coils, one for each cylinder of the engine. Essentially, when combined with the spark plugs, they provide the spark for ignition/combustion. It sits right across the top of the engine and usually says "Direct Ignition" on it.

As you're aware, they are prone to failure and often do not show signs of the impending failure. When the DI cassette dies, it is a complete failure. Your car will not function without it. Be happy if it fails in your driveway (as mine did) and not on the highway at 80mph (as some others have reported).

The part can be purchased by Saabnet sponsors for approximately $300 and is very easy to replace. It is likely the easiest part to replace in the engine.

It is not a new problem to Saabs either - you see this failure frequently in the NG900 and maybe the 9000s as well.
