Thanks for your enlightened views on this subject. The engineer in me wants to lean towards the theoretical rather than the practical sometimes, but I plan on going to a few installers and trying to listen to a typical Modulator installation to see if it is what I will be happy with.
Do you happen to know firsthand just what the encoding process and sampling rate is that the two sattelite systems use?I think that if it is eally the equivalent of MP-3 performancethat the two companies should not be speaking in terms of "CD" quality. Many people cannot hear the difference between these two digital formats, but I personally can. In addition, the 9-5's amplifiers and speakers, and particularly it's acoustic equalizing within the vehicle's interior make the addition of a high quality signal source a worthwhile addition. I have in my younger years,"souped up" the stereo systems of even some very good cars tht I bought, and with the 9-5,have not had the desire to do this again. Part of it is the fact that as manufacturers go towards customized installations, there is less reason to do that, but there are also fewerr available aftermarket components that will actually fit and interface with the rest of the car's components. I for one would not give up either steering wheel controls or my Nokia hands free setup to get a radio that had slightly better reception and performance specs.Once you get used to these things, they become mandatory rather than frivolous.
Thanks again for the pointers and info on satellite radio..Lou
