Had the dealer look it over today. They pretty much shrugged their shoulders and said it looked like some ice buildup was responsible and could not see any lasting damage to the brake mechanism or brake shoe. This being the very first time I've ever had this happen on any car, the episode was a bit disconcerting to me and I was really worried I had damaged the brake somehow. Oh well, I guess next time I'll just know to reach under the car and manually break the cable free. Still am mystified why a car touted as being so cold-weather capable would suffer this type of problem.....
