95 Aero Sportwagon...
The car has been smooth as silk & vibration free until 35,000 miles. The car idles very rough @ 825 rpm, steering wheel shakes, and car seats vibrate. If I put the car in neutral rev it to 1000 rpm the vibration goes away. Initially I thought the problem was bad gas ( only use premium 93 octane). I took the car into Saab & had the gas drained, flushed, and installed new fuel filter & Saab put a fuel cleaner into the car…this did not help. I asked if the idle could be adjusted but have been told it has been preset & can not be changed.
Saab has inspected the inner drive & it is fine. They have replaced the motor mounts (passenger side mount was worn) but the problem continues. Saab replaced the balance shaft & chain but the problem continues. Saab replaced the right front wheel bearing (the vibrations appear to be strongest toward the passenger side of the engine) but the problem continues. Saab authorized several other minor adjustments which were not itemized on Saab work orders but the problem continued. Saab flew a technical specialist into town to inspect & drive the car; he suggested I should put better gas in the car…I only put 93 octane in it! The car has been serviced according to Saab’s timetable, & I change the oil along with tire rotation every 3000 miles. I have since taken the car to a transmission specialist & no problems were found.;
I have since met another Saab owner with the same problem. She has a 2003 95 Arc & it began shaking at 17,000 miles. We have now been told by Saab that the shaking is normal & all 95’s do it. I find this hard to believe since Saab went through considerable expense to correct a problem which is “normal”. I have also been told that the car has always vibrated & that I just imagined that it did not during the first 35,000 miles.
